Introduction to CrossFit : 

CrossFit (short for CrossFitness = CrossTraining) was born in California thanks to Greg Glassman. CrossFit is now a training method consisting of a variety of high intensity exercises to improve physical fitness. It is becoming increasingly widespread with 15000 affiliated venues worldwide. This activity revolves around 10 athletic skills: balance, accuracy, flexibility, coordination, speed, power, agility, strength and endurance. It is a mixture of differents sports such as athletics, fitness, weightlifting (gymnastics, weightlifting, powerlifting or athletics) … We can describe CrossFit as a high intensity effort activity. Many tools can be used for the CrossFit.

The objectives of CrossFit :

The most of CrossFit gyms doesn’t have mirrors, this prove that the end is other that the physical appearence. There are many reason to practice CrossFit. First of all, this activity allows you to work on your endurance (muscular or cardiovascular). As we work several muscles at the same time (mainly polyarticular movements), time is saved.  CrossFit allows you to work on your mind because this activity allows you to go deep inside yourself, both physically and mentally.

CrossFit exercises

The exercises in a CrossFit workout can be divided into several categories:

  • Gymnastics : pull-up, muscle up ou encore handstand …
  • Weightlifting (all exercises that are done with a load): snatch, clean and jerk…
  • Cardio: running, jumping rope, ski-erg …

All these exercises can be performed in duration or number of repetitions.

We can take an example of a session to be carried out. It should be noted that a warm-up must be done beforehand.

2 minutes of squat

It is possible to do two sets, adding 3 minutes of recovery between the 2 sets.
