Athletics: the Sportbeeper, an ideal tool!

Athletics: the Sportbeeper, an ideal tool!

1.Its origin

In its early days, the Sportbeeper was initially designed to meet the specific needs of athletics. Its inventor, Georges Gacon, was faced with the challenge of simplifying and improving training sessions, especially during 30/30 drills, where coaches had to juggle between the whistle and the stopwatch to control time intervals. At that time, there were no tools on the market that met this requirement.

This is how Georges Gacon came up with the ingenious idea of developing the Sportbeeper, an innovative device that would revolutionize the way athletics training was conducted. The Sportbeeper can be considered the ideal tool for athletics, as it offers a practical and effective solution for managing workouts, especially interval exercises.

Thanks to the Sportbeeper, athletics coaches were able to free themselves from the constraints of the whistle and stopwatch. The device makes it easy to program precise time intervals for training sessions, allowing athletes to fully focus on their performance without being interrupted by external beeps.

In addition, the Sportbeeper offers great flexibility and versatility, allowing coaches to customize training sessions to suit the specific needs of each athlete. Whether it’s for sprints, recovery exercises, or any other type of training, the Sportbeeper offers precise control and efficient time management.

2.What features of Sportbeeper can I use for athletics ?

  • There is the: Test menu

In odrer to individualise the sessions as much as possible or organise them by level group it is imperative to have your athletes take tests (MASc et MASi, speed, flexibility, isokinetics, mental…). Some of theses can be carried out using the Sportbeeper Pro (VAM Eval, 45-15 FIT, Shuttle run (Léger)) … When we do long and middle distance events, we are making a continuous effort. Therefore, it is recommended to use a continuous test like the VAM Eval.

  • There is the : Intermittent exercises

It is possible to set up many intermittent exercises, both short and long. In addition, it is possible to combine two different exercises in intermittent. These two training sessions can be done in a row (cycling) or first one exercise and then another (combined). For example, if you want to set up a 15 * 30/30 session, simply choose the cyclic intermittent training library in the “training” menu. You enter 30 seconds in the first column and in the second column, and in the third column you enter 15. Your 15*30/30 session is then set up.

  • There is the :The tab-odometer

The tab-odometer will calculate and display the distances to be covered according to the speed for each sequence. This tool is particularly useful for short MAS such as 30/30 or 15/15.

  • There is the :Pacing and staging exercises

Pacing and staging are fundamental in long and middle distance running. Constant pace will allow a person to work at a certain speed with the aim of imprinting that speed. In addition, working at a progressive pace allows the pace to be increased and can be used to integrate the warm-up.

It is not uncommon for track and field coaches to suggest stages exercises. Unlike pacing exercises, a recovery is programmed between pacing changes.

  • There is the:Timer

Many training sessions end with a workout. This is made possible by using the timer and setting 0:00 for recovery. At each beep, the athlete should change position.
